2-Chloronicotinonitrile, with CAS registry number 6602-54-6, is an organic compound which belongs to the product categories of Pyridine; Pyridines, Pyrimidines, Purines and Pteredines; Halides; Pyridines; Heterocyclic Compounds; Chloropyridines; Halopyridines. It is an important intermediate for pesticide and pharmaceutical like Diflufenican, Boscalid, Mirtazapine, niflumic acid, etc. 2-Chloronicotinonitrile also can be used as the raw material to produce 1-(3-Cyano-2-pyridyl)piperazine, 2-propylamino-nicotinonitrile and 3-acetyl-2-chloropyridine etc.

2-Chloronicotinonitrile is the product of 1-oxy-nicotinamide. It is white to light yellow crystal powder. Its IUPAC name is called 2-chloropyridine-3-carbonitrile. It should be closed tight and stored in cool and draughty place.

2-Chloronicotinonitrile can be used to produce 1-(3-Cyano-2-pyridyl)piperazine by heating. This reaction will need solvent butan-1-ol with reaction time of 18 hours.

2-Chloronicotinonitrile at low levels can cause damage to health. It may cause inflammation to the skin or other mucous membranes. In addition, it is harmful by inhalation, in contact with skin and if swallowed. Besides, this compound is irritating to eyes, respiratory system and skin. In case of contact with eyes, you should rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. Whenever you will contact it, please wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection.
