General Information of Sodium percarbonate
Sodium percarbonate (CAS NO.15630-89-4) is easily decomposed by water, so it is produced commercially by reacting powdered anhydrous Na2CO3 with H2O2 dissolved in carbon tetrachloride CCl4. It can be obtained in the laboratory by reacting the two substances in aqueous solution with proper control of the pH or concentrations.
Synonyms of Sodium percarbonate (CAS NO.15630-89-4): Disodium carbonate, hydrogen peroxide (2:3) ; FB Sodium percarbonate ; Oxyper ; Peroxy sodium carbonate ; Carbonic acid disodium salt, compd.
Sodium percarbonate (CAS NO.15630-89-4) can be used as a convenient source of anhydrous H2O2, particularly in solvents which cannot dissolve the carbonate but can leach the H2O2 out of it.
Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated in Section 8.
Spills/Leaks: Vacuum or sweep up material and place into a suitable disposal container. Avoid generating dusty conditions.
Handling: Use with adequate ventilation. Avoid breathing dust, vapor, mist, or gas. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Avoid contact with clothing and other combustible materials.
Storage: Keep away from sources of ignition. Do not store near combustible materials. Store in a tightly closed container. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances.
