I think cancer vaccines are a very promising field. There are a variety of vaccines being developed not only to prevent cancers (caused by viruses, such as Hep B and HPV), but also to fight existing cancer in patients. I wrote a three-part series of cancer vaccine articles -- for anyone who's interested, see the links below.

For more on preventative cancer vaccines, see this article:
http://www.independent.com/news/2010/apr/23/cancer-vaccines-part-i/

For more on therapeutic cancer vaccines, see this one:
http://www.independent.com/news/2010/apr/29/cancer-vaccines-part-ii/

And lastly, for information on how being pregnant is like having cancer and how this information could be used to vaccinate against cancer, see this article:
http://www.independent.com/news/2010/may/07/cancer-vaccines-part-iii/
(Considering that much of this work stopped in the 1970s, and now we have access to embryonic stem cells, some of this promising work could probably be revisited.)
